Need more evidence that Michigan needs to ramp up efforts to fix its crumbling infrastructure?

At least twice this month, citizens faced temporary road closures when construction projects discovered bridge or ramp conditions too dangerous for vehicle traffic.

A brief closure involved U.S. 127 where a southbound ramp connects to eastbound I-96. Workers there found a hole in the road.

A few days later, I-94 near Battle Creek was closed - for several days all traffic in both directions was detoured off the interstate, because workers on the site to update 50-year-old bridges discovered that the entire roadway had shifted some 6 inches, raising safety concerns.

Fortunately, workers discovered, and reacted to, these situations. Better yet would be a serious commitment by the Legislature to address Michigan's crumbling infrastructure.

Sign the Petition

The Michigan Transportation Team (MTT) recently announced an online petition drive for citizens who are tired of driving on pothole-riddled streets. Although the petition is non-binding and will not change the law, the names of petition signers will be presented to state policymakers to demonstrate the level of support in Michigan for investing in our state’s infrastructure.
