WHAT: News conference and exhibition regarding the 12,255 jobs that are being lost due to cuts in transportation funding.

Lawmakers will be greeted by orange barrels lining the sidewalks leading to the Capitol, and a large backhoe-loader representing the 12,255 jobs the state is losing if the legislature doesn’t address transportation funding.

The backhoe-loader will overshadow a VW Beetle that symbolizes the 3,010 automotive, banking and pharmaceutical jobs that are leaving the state.

Due to the decrease in transportation funding, 12,255 jobs will be lost – adding to the ever growing number of jobs leaving Michigan. This not only is a blow to Michigan’s already troubled economy but its crumbling infrastructure as well.

Although the petition is non-binding and will not change the law, the names of petition signers will be presented to state policymakers to demonstrate the level of support in Michigan for investing in our state’s infrastructure.
